I wonder if I can have some advice regarding printers.
Mt wife's HP printer has given us hassle almost from day one, coming up with 'mickey mouse' messages about incompatible cartridges even when genuine HP ones are fitted. There's another error message which appears regularly but I can't remember it at the moment.
So as I'm the one on the receiving end of all the moans, I think it's time to cut our losses and get her a replacement. I'm thinking of going back to Epson, or Canon which I haven't had previously. I'm not too bothered whether it's wireless or not, but I would like to be able to run it on compatibles. And an 'all-in-one' with a scanner.
So suggestions and recommendations please? And a source of decent compatibles which work, and don't generate hassle and stupid error messages.
Thanks in anticipation.

Epson have started releasing their XP Range which means compatibles are thin on the ground until numbers sold increase enough to interest the major compatible suppliers. Have heard that the lower number XP printers can be " flimsy " If it will be used for photos then a six ink printer will be better than the standard four.

Maybe the reviews will help

Thanks for your help, but my wife isn't a heavy user so spending £100/200 on a printer wasn't part of the plan!
To be honest, I wouldn't spend that sort of money on a printer for myself!David.0 -
Why do you not search backwards?
See how much compatable inks cost say for an Epson of your choice then read the reviews and buy your printer.
I am an Epson fan and you can get a decent one with wifi for about £50.0 -

Thanks for your reply, I just thought I might get some personal recommendations here, but maybe not!
I'm sure I read somewhere recently, that the older Epson SXs were better than the new XP series, but looking at some reviews there appears to be an issue whereby when one cartridge runs out the printer won't print until that cartridge is replaced, which strikes me as being rather stupid and inconvenient!David.0 -
I bought an Epson XP-405 last month for £49.99 and am happy with it so far.
Compatible inks are available on Amazon, Ebay etc.0 -
I did buy an SX version from Argos a few months back for £40 I think - there was nothing wrong with my old one just I wanted the WIFI to print without the hassle of plugging wires into my laptop. Thanks for your reply, I just thought I might get some personal recommendations here, but maybe not!

It works a treat and compatibles work on it without any bother.0 -
I bought a Canon 5350 last week , under £80 , very happy.0

I bought a Canon Pixma MG3200 printer from Argos (also available from PC World) for £50 a couple of months ago. It is wired or wireless, scans, copies and prints really well, including photo paper. However the ink cartridges are expensive - circa £18 each for XL versions and don't last long.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.
