Stolen items in postal system.

In which case, there is an issue with the PO not filling in the label appropriately.
However, even if they know what's inside, the PO will still argue it's not their place to advise on the insurance product or even know everything on the list of items excluded from compensation.
A list of goods that cannot be posted? Yes, that's essential knowledge. A list of goods that cannot be insured? Not so much.
Trust me, they have it. And so do Parcelforce, as if this went with another carrier on behalf of Parcelforce they have to declare it accurately and are liable.
Ultimately it doesnt matter what the rules are for parcelforce, they are contracted by the counter at the post office and as such the post office counter is liable for any inaccuracies or mistakes on these shipments. International freight on Parcelforce is a much more involved and questions process at a PO counter versus surface mail.0 -
Hello, Polishingpete - just saw your post. I work for an internet jewellery company and we send all our gold and platinum jewellery by Royal Mail as this is the safest and only method accepted. Special delivery is insured for jewellery throughout the UK for different levels up to £500, £100 and £2,500. For overseas mailing, we use Airsure + Compensation or International Signed For where there is a higher level of insurance required. Jewellery cannot be sent any other way. We have looked and looked and looked especially when Royal Mail went on strike! Parcelforce does not have insurance for jewellery nor do courriers.0

This is correct, but specialist insurers will insure you for using couriers to deliver jewellery.
If you send a large amount frequently you will be better off using a specialist insurer for your transportation coverage.0 -
It's all a mute point anyway, the item was successfully delivered as far as they are concerned. So befor you start thinking about insurance you need to get over the hurdle of them telling you it was delivered so are not liable anyway, regardless off it being suitable for insurance or not.
You can see how this would look for false claims etc, the item was delivered but nothing in it, give me £1700 please, I right son let me get my cheque book.0 -
I would at least be looking to get my insurance premium back but that is nothing in the grand scheme of things0
