Only time I felt out of place walking in a suit was when I went for a couple of interviews in Camden.

Not at all strange and if anyone comments you can point out it is part of a healthy lifestyle. This seems a very valid excuse for most things nowadays!

When I wore a suit to work and was well groomed, I used to get the odd second look/wink from the ladies.....

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

Sounds like your family worry too much about what people think.

I've never had a job where I was required to wear a suit, but one time I used to walk 45 minutes to work, and part of my route involved walking through one of the local rough/council estates. I used to get the occasional stare for wearing, usually, brightly coloured trousers (my profession doesn't do dress codes), a tucked in shirt, leather soled shoes etc, but only I think because they knew I was from one of the other nearby housing areas.

Just as well you weren't wearing a suit, on the housing estate closest to me the only people wearing suits are referred to as "the accused" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

People may well be light-heartedly poo-pooing your concerns but soome suits aren't errrr.... suitable. Walking to work in a birthday suit might prove problematic...

I see nothing weird about it.

I constantly see people walking to work in a suit.

Your family and friends have some very strange ideas. I imagine in most areas during the rush hour you will see people ambling along in suits. I live in the country and at 8am you see people in suits walking to work.

I don't see how it could be thought of as wierd!

Besides, how would anyone know you were walking to work? You could be walking to/from the station, or to/from where parked your 'professional' car!

PS your collegues won't know that you walk unless you tell them ;)

why on earth would it be odd to walk to work in a suit?
You may want to invest in decent waterproofs, or have a change of clothes available at work just in case you get completely caught in a downpour one morning - nothing worse than arriving for an important meeting drenched!

I have worked in huge organisations where suits were the norm & many, many people walked to work, or walked form the bus stop/train station to the office - never an issue!
