Gatwick express ticket question

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me.

I am going to gatwick on weds afternoon.. as i am going after work, i have gotten a return from east croydon and singles from victoria to east croydon (work is closer to victoria) and a single from east croydon to raynes park (close to where i live).

Will i be permitted to use these tickets on the gatwick express, as it doesnt stop at east croydon? I am not so concerned for the way back but more the way out.

I don't think so. With split ticketing it is a requirement that the train stops at the mid way station.

The normal trains are quick. Gatwick Express is very expensive in comparison.

As normal trains take 3 minutes longer and run more frequently I really wouldn't worry, but no, your ticket will say under the route section 'Not Gatwick Express'

Just hop on a Southern service. They're the same company, operating trains at the same speed. the only difference is Southern services make 2 stops.
