BT to Talk Talk switchover

Hiya
My 18 month phone and broadband package with BT is now up, and I'm thinking of going to Talk Talk
The BT bill every month is over £50 which I feel is borderline criminal especially as we hardly ever use the home phone.
Anyway, a few questions.
Would I still have to pay line rental to BT?
How quickly would I be on the Internet with Talk Talk? As in would i need some sort of code from BT to tell Talk Talk and they switch over?
Thanks

What BT tariff are you on that is charging you £50pm for line rental, minimum calls package and broadband?! Break down your bill.
You can transfer your line rental to any provider you choose.
If you wish to transfer your broadband you need a MAC from BT.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm not sure, my partner has it and I said I'd take over phone bills when the contract expired.
I know its a rip off, think the broadband plus line rental comes to £35 or thereabouts, and a few phone calls pushes it to £50
I'm looking at the Talk Talk offer which expires tomorrow, so I can sign up with them, then wait til their hub equivalent comes and tell BT we are ending the contract and get the MAC code?0 -
To the op,
I think you making a good move, bt are total rip-offs, I was with bt but I moved to talktalk this month, I went live with talktalk on 7th of this month for phone and broadband and I also got youview from them which is amazing.
I never had any faults with talktalk so far, I was paying with bt for £65.56 for phone and broadband and guess what I never made any calls on my landline so I am confused as to why it was £65.56 so I had enough of them and moved to talktalk with the 3 package which is worth the money then bt, my monthly bill for talktalk is £35.00

A few calls doesn't equate to £15.00 a month. You are either making landline calls which could be free with a call package, or are making mobile/other calls that you need to accept you will pay with all service providers.
If your calls are "other" calls, add the £15 on to what you expect to pay Talk Talk.0 -
As above. Since an Anytime tariff costs you no more than a fiver extra, how can it be economic to pay £15 a month extra for 'a few' phone calls?
I suggest you look at the actual bill before you do anything else-if you don't actually know what you are paying for, you can hardly make a rational judgement on whether to switch or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop
