Hi all this is a big one il try and keep it brief
ok , moved into property in the oct 2009, had other issues to long to explain. had 3rd child whilst there baby slept in box room that also housed the bolier. Huge old thing. Anyway in the feb of 2010 got my gas bill in for around £400/500 I called to speak to adviser regarding this and gave meter reading over the phone. She then dropped the bombshell that it was actually close to £800. I nearly died.
They questioned me on the property, tenancy agreement etc. and then they asked me about had the boiler been serviced etc....turns out the boiler was over 20 year old. She asked about gas safety cert??? I then realised I did not have one. I called agency, got a ton of abuse. I then panicked as my new baby was sleeping in the same room as the boiler so I made a call to British gas. I called agency and said about gas safety cert they realised NONE had been done or was in place. They then said that whatever British gas said about the boiler ( dangerous, unsafe) etc. they would not be held liable and would not agree until they had also done a check.
She was rather vile to me but I stood my ground and got it checked, in the meantime agency rushed out a team to carry out the gas safety check. It passed although was very old and not energy efficient.
BG said to me it was ok, but old and not leaking or causing any danger at this time.
gas safety check was done that night.
week later boiler broke down, left 1 week given electric heaters which then blew the lecky board.....:mad::mad::mad::mad: 2 days then fixed
turns out boiler hadn't been serviced in some time it then needed a new fan.
still hangin on with massive gas bill we were told we were liable as we had used the gas.
and then summer came, heating part was switched off as no need, hot water stopped working. we were told run the central heating to get hotwater. I said no I wasn't prepared to run it like that due to massive bill already. it was then fixed valve problem so it had needed the heating on to get hot water what a joke...
after all that and a million other issues like flooding patio door and I mean flooding, lights always blowing endless things goin on we left.
We are now in middle of paying this gas bill off in the space of 9 months the gas bill in total was 2500 pounds... this was even with barely using.
as I was so desp to leave and so upset by this I never took it further they then stung us for our deposit and blamed us for some damage, all lies had piccys. We now have had pre-paid meters put in.:mad::mad::mad::mad: in new house.
I basically want to know do I stand anywere or is it to late to tackle this, my mum who knew nothing of this till recently said we should have taken this further. we were so upset we just took it. awful awful agency.
is it right r we liable still for this bill or should I complain..
Please be gentle folks xxx
