I've been having a google and can't find a stud/wire finder that is actually reliable.
For the live wire detection that's pretty important it actually works.
Looking to pickup in the next day or two, so need an actual store not online

I've had a plasplugs one for 20 years, still works perfect, I have an industrial 1 from my work days, to be honest it is no better;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
they will all detect a cable but the more you spend the more accurate it is likely to be, B&Q, screwfix, toolstation.
not lost the winding cable going to your cooker hood have youI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

what model and any idea where sells these?southcoastrgi wrote: »they will all detect a cable but the more you spend the more accurate it is likely to be, B&Q, screwfix, toolstation.
all the ones on B&Q and Screwfix have terrible reviews. Toolstation ones don't have reviews.
There's a cable that I found when pulling out built in wardrobe, running from floor up to loft. I want to know if its live and I need to chase it into wall or if I can cut it out before I get plastering done...
Also need to find joists for screwing stud frame into ceiling0 -
this will tell you if the cable is live
if your ceiling is lathe & plaster any stud detector is going to struggleI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

I agree, but an educated zero setting usually works for the technical eye,;);)

Never seen them before, so I just touch it onto the cable and it will tell if its live. Coz I really don't want to get electrocuted.
I take it this just works on cables that are exposed, and to put into sockets to see if they are receiving a current?
Not sure what the ceiling plaster is, but it's since had polystryrene tiles up, which have since been plasterboarded over and skimmed, so any stud detector would struggle by the sounds of it?
Guess I'll need to measure where studs are from the loft0 -
yes you normally press the button then put it on or close to the cable & that one will light up & buzz if it's live, no you won't get electrocuted, they are very good i use one (although not that one) but that one is a very good price.
go in the loft & measure the joists (they should be the same distance apart) then while you are up there put a bradal or small screwdriver through the ceiling right next to a joist then when you go downstairs you can see the end of the screwdriver & you will know where the joist isI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

thanks, that's my weekend sorted
and I'm praying the cable isn't live so I don't have to chase it in!0
