Raised from the dead!!

I have a tricky one for PPI and wonder if there is anyone who can help simplify this for me. The standard template letter doesn't feel like it will help.
My bank cancelled all my direct debits and advised all companies I had died! I know! Anyway, my credit card company wrote to "Representative for the late....." asking for payment in full. This was actually how we found out something was amiss. I was told I had to have a whole new card and account as they could not re-open existing account.
I now have a new card and it has PPI. This was a number of years ago and I don't remember asking for it, and if they opened a new card as the initial one, which is what I asked for, then it looks like I had PPI on the original, but if I did why were they asking for the balance, and if I didn't have they added it to the new one without my express permission? As I say, it was a number of years ago and at the time I was so caught up fixing this mess, trust me it isn't easy to revert the dead status back to living! and never thought much about it all. Does any of that make any sense? I feel I don't trust them to be honest about it all and have been told by a friend that there is no way money for this can be re-claimed from Capital One as this was what she was advised by a reclaim company working for her.

Claims companies do tend to like to cherry pick. Cap One has a very low success rate on complaints and the FOS do not overturn many (22% in last monitored period and 11% before that). So, its possible that her claims company were playing the odds game. Equally, it may be that she doesnt have a case to complain. Claims companies are meant to check first before submitting complaints. Most don't but they should.
