Can anybody help. I have just purchased a new car for use in the summer but i also have a car for the winter, so i will be using one car for 6 months and the other for 6 months, im finding it difficult to find an insurance broker who will split one insurance cost into two, can anybody help?

Not really as the industry is geared around annual policies. Are you SORNing the off road car for 6 months every year or not? If you arent then both vehicles must have valid insurance all year anyway.

You could take out an annual policy and do a Change of Vehicle mid term but then you will have an admin fee to pay and somewhat at their mercy as to what premium they charge.

You can buy a policy, then change over the car when the time comes (expect an admin fee and a premium adjustment up or down depending on the models involved).

Make sure your "change" car is acceptable to your chosen insurer before buying the policy.

The spare car would need to be SORN whilst uninsured, and of course you'd have no cover against fire/theft whilst it was uninsured.

    Hi
Thanks for reply. Yes i will be sorning the other car when i do the change over,Quentin is right, ive had one insurer saying they may be able to do this for me but i had to call them in 6 months time when i want to change over but couldnt tell me fees etc. I tried an independent broker but they wanted my arm and leg aswell :)

This is where you really need to shop around. Find an insurer thats cheap on your current car may have high admin charges or be very expensive for the other vehicle. if they will cover it.

So you need to get quotes on both vehicles and ask what their admin fees are.

The administration fee they can tell you, or at least the maximum, as this is set in the T&Cs of the policy.

What they cannot tell you know is:

    a) If they will accept the other vehicle at all in 6 months
    b) What premium impact it will be

They should be able to give you an indicitive quote as if they did it "today" which may give an idea but of cause prices can change significantly
