Hi guys,
Looking for some advice. A friend and I are looking to rent a flat between us and have already paid a holding deposit on the property. The Letting Agent use a company called Homelet to carry out credit and reference checks. I am a bit worried as my credit is not the best. I have a couple defaults, no bankruptcy or CCJ's or anything like that - just the results of being young and foolish a while back. Will this effect our chances of getting the flat? I earn 19k per year and he earns 25k per year and our rent share each will be £240 PCM.
Any help or advice appreciated.
Thanks.

You have to wait and see
If you get a reference from your employer which proves your income and ability to afford the rent every month.
Have you rented before Previous Landlord reference?
Good Luck0 -
Most agents and sensible landlords run credit checks, via Homelet, Letsure, Paragonadvance or one of the many other providers.
Bankrupcy/CCJs are the big no-nos. Salary to rent income is important. General credit-worthiness: well, different agents and different LLs have different attitudes.0 -
Thanks for the reply. My employer will be able to verify my salary, I also have payslips and a P60 to prove this. Really hoping this doesn't effect me, although it is making me even more determined to sort out my credit file. I have rented before but with a previous partner and she was the only one named on the lease. Suppose i'll just have to wait and see....0

Thanks G_M. Do they have a standard salary to rent ratio preferred?0
