£500 seems a little steep for a service and MOT.

You can get MOTs for under £30.00 quite easily.

Get a copy of the service checklist and get some other quotes.

The main dealer I use charges under £200 for a full service.

Not sure where £500 came from? OP talked about £300.

My error, £300 still seems a little bit over.
It really depends on whether anything else was carried out at the time.

My last service was about £120... I still think that's a joke of a price.

Service kits about £25+oil (cheapest i've seen for my car is on eBay at just short of £15).

Certainly shouldn't take a competent garage more than an hour to do!

Service should definitely be less than £200. Get it done but shop around....
