I think my Dr thinks I'm mad...not sure what to do!

We shouldn't have to be diagnosing ourselves (or others). That's what we go to the doctor for! That's what they spend years training in medicine for! I recommend OP tries to find a good/experienced GP.0

I quite agree with you, we shouldn't be diagnosing ourselves or others but what about when 'experienced' GP's fail you!!0 -

ETA: just read your last post OP - it certainly sounds the same! Do you spend a lot of time at a PC?
That is identical to my back pain and a change of pillow combined with mctimony chiropractor has just about cured itIf you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0 -
No help to you but I have unexplained pain at the top of my left thigh - just below the bum cheek. It hurts so much that even sitting on the loo can make me flinch and a skirt touching it will have me wincing
Ive had this for 15 years on and off. No rash not nothing. Just feels like very heightened sensation of the skin. When I first noticed it I went to the gp and she thought it was a vit B deficiency due to other issues and has prescribed long term use of B1 - but to be honest I never remember to take them longer then a few days at a time so cant work out if they make any difference
Im liable to believe the diagnoses as it did start when I had the other issues0 -

There are too many possibilities so do your research and go back to your GP, especially if you discover a trigger for your symptoms that you didn't know about.

It starts at a pin-point and spreads width-ways as it falls downwards. From what I understand, nerves move outwards from the vertebrae and tend to affect both sides of your body more then just one side.
Still not found a trigger, and pain killers aren't doing much to dull it in the same way they dull the lumber spine issue.2nd_Time_Lucky wrote: »That is identical to my back pain and a change of pillow combined with mctimony chiropractor has just about cured it
I wished about 4+ years ago when my lumber spine issues began my GP had referred me to a back person! I was told it was just part of being human (later diagnosed with hypermobility issues and fibromyalgia when I did get sent to a specialist- because I luckily saw a locum who did refer me!) I've had lumber spine issues and back pain where my left kidney is began about 14 months ago now. (The pills knocked me for 6 so I had to stop taking them) If I had any excuse to see a chiropractor that would have been it, as much as I will ask I think the answer will be a straight no.No help to you but I have unexplained pain at the top of my left thigh - just below the bum cheek. I'm also rubbish at taking pills though! Unless I am in chronic pain and it's a pain relief pill I seem to always forget to take the things!0 -
I'm planning on going back for another appointment next week if this thing is still here. It'll be 5 weeks by then and it's not gotten any better and is still at time almost screamingly bad. I hope it goes within the week but I'm doubtful! I know if I turn up any earlier then next week they'll just tell me to come back another week.
I'll ask about
Vitamin B issues
Nerve issues
Neurological issues
Spinal issues
Scabies or similar skin inflictions.
I suppose that as I'm already fairly sure my GP thinks I'm a raving mad hypochondriac that it can't get that much worse. (I may need to remind myself of this a few times before the appointment!)0 -

ooh-just seen your post!
I do spend a lot of time at a desk but I don't tend to sit "properly". I curl up and to one side though switch sides frequently and get up very often. I do carry a heavy bag as I am at a gym quite frequently and walk around a lot.
It would be great if it was muscle strain, though stretching hasn't helped (I had wondered if it was anything like this or a trapped nerve when it first started). I'd contemplate a massage but it just hurts too much that I can just about tolerate a cool shower so the idea of hands on my back raises every single heckle on my spine!0 -
I just thought I'd get back to everyone on the thread in case anyone was wondering.
I managed to get an appointment today- very suprized at that fact alone as it's hard to get through on the phone! I didn't have to wait either-sat down for all of 15 seconds before being called in!
Anyway, saw a different GP and she suggested it could be to do with the nerves getting caught or falling out of their position on my vertebrae. She said that I'd need an Xray to see what was going on and possibly an MRI. I had the Xray done today as I had the day free and the results are due in 2 weeks though I am warned they frequently go missing from the hospital.
I was offered some medication but turned it down as both the medications mentioned is one I have a huge issues with as a result of past experiences, I'd rather be in pain to put it mildly. It does help though to know that maybe if I find out what's causing it I can work out what to do about stopping it.
I didn't get a chance to mention scabies but I didn't have a rash of any sorts and the GP did look at the patch of skin which is "burning".
If anyone is interested at all, I'll post in 2 weeks when I have the xray results.0 -

Yes please update later. I'm glad you got a reasonable GP this time. I have to say I have found over the years you really have to part self diagnose before seeing a GP as in my experience they don't seem to have a clue half the time.0 -
Just to get back to everyone.
X ray results are back, I have no idea what's on them as the receptionist has told me the Doctor wants to talk to me about them and is going to call me on Friday to discuss them.
I am hoping its nothing serious as I'm being given a phone call and not a face-to-face appointment. The GP did mention an MRI scan if the xray didn't show up anything, she had suggested it was a nerve issue when I had the appointment but I was under the impression nerves cannot be seen in an xray (still think it's a big waste having both scans if nerves is the theory).0
