Faulty Clarkes shoes - desperate Mum needs help
Comments

They did say the shoes are now too small. This could cause damage to the toe area.0

If his foot is half a size bigger then its probable that his foot has got too big for the shoe thus making the stitches break.
If they offer a replacement all they have to do is give you the same sized shoe as you originally bought. As this now appears to be too small for your son I don't see the point? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Just buy a new pair instead of complaining over something so incredibly ridiculous.
I would expect a pair of shoes to last the school year.
But I also know children on bikes etc can trash a pair of shoes in no time.
I don't think it is ridiculous, but the OP also has to decide whether it is poor quality shoes or pilot error.0 -
ILWs right. The shoes are too small already, so getting offered 25% reduction on the price of a new pair of shoes has to be a bonus.
I would absolutely love if my kids school shoes lasted a full school year, but they grow into a new size at least every 6 months.0 -
I think it's all too convenient that they measure his feet half a size bigger!
You could probably go into another branch and they'll measure it at the original size.
Perhaps Clarkes are using a cheaper manufacturer yet selling them at the same expensive prices.
Even when shoes get tight, a good pair shouldn't just fall apart like that, especially after just 4 months.
I'd insist on a replacement.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It sounds perfectly possible that your child's feet could have grown by a size in 4 months. How old is the child? I remember going from size 5 when I was 10-11 to size 7-8 by 13.0

I don't think it's fair to imply that Clarks would say he has gone up half a size just for the sake of it. Dd they use a guage or the machine that you stand on? The size can vary depending on the thickness of the sock they are wearing, how warm their feet are. A good sales assistant will know which styles come up small or big, a good sales assistant does not sell you a pair of shoes if they don't have to. The point of going to Clarks is to have them properly measured with room for growth and the correct width for the foot, not just buy a pair of off the peg shoes which might not fit your child well and give them sore feet. Clarks assistants do not sell you shoes and add on half a size just for the sake of it because they will be too big causing problems of rubbing/blisters and the foot moving about in the shoe too much because of too much space. I've used Clarks several times and been told if my child is the same size.
Personally I actually prefer Startrite shoes, they are far more hard wearing especially for boys who I find are very rough with their shoes. I have stopped using Clarks because they do not last, I think your problem is with the quality of the shoes which is fair enough.
(If buying Startrite you are half a size lower than what you are measured in Clarks as the measuring gauges are different- sizing is different)
If you were not happy with the measurement taken then you should ask for a second opinion when you were in the store.
It's more than possible for your child's feet to have grown in 4 months!0 -
Like others have said he has been measured bigger it is possible that the growth has put strain on the stitching. How old is your son? When I was a fitter we would say to come back for a fit check every 6-8 weeks for babies and toddlers and 12 weeks for older children.
Did she check the shoes on your sons feet as that would answer the question as to whether they still fit and whether it would be a replacement or £ towards new pair. Personally I've had to change my sons shoes already this year because he has grown, wish they would last a whole year!0
