tablet tethering

Can someone help me. If I buy a Wi-Fi only tablet can I buy some Data from my mobile phone provider whilst abroad and use my tablet via my mobile phone. Where I'm staying does not have internet connection. Yes it may be easier to buy a 3G tablet but they're quite expensive

With the information you have given, Phoning your mobile provider and asking is your best option.

it is technically possible, however your phone service provider may not allow tethering as part of your T&Cs

Yes tethering often costs more or requires an add-on of some sort.

I found with Three that they blocked a laptop using an Android local WiFi hotspot from the 3G phone but it worked just fine using an Android tablet. I thought it must be the browser user agent and added a user agent spoofer - they still spotted and blocked the tethering....

One other option on Android is an app the name of which escapes me which does a screen share over bluetooth (you install on phone and tablet and use the apps browser on the tablet). That was tricky to set up but did work. I uninstalled it when I found the WiFi hotspot worked anyway. You'll need to search to find it if that sounds a good option for you.

Don't use mobile data abroad - will cost a fortune:

Phone companies can charge no more than 58p per megabyte of data, plus VAT.

You need to talk to your mobile provider. I am with vodafone and with a £3 or £4 charge a day (i forgot which) I could take my "package" abroad with me and use the ipad tethered to my phone. (Contract sim)

There may be PAYG packages or limits on PAYG sims,

Doing what I did is not necessarily the most cost effective, but I did not want any data worries when I was abroad, so was happy with the overall cost, as it would've still been cheaper than if I paid for little drips here and there. I had no worries with data erroneously downloaded that way, and didn't feel like I needed to worry about what I was actually doing on phone or tablet data wise.

YOU MUST find out prior, otherwise you could logistically come back on here after going overseas and will be the next posting I've just had a horrendous bill due to data. You should also check that tethering is allowed in T&C's to begin with.

You could also look up sims whilst out there for better deals to throw in phone, and tether from it.
