Quidco have a 5% cashback offer if you spend between 400 and 600 on a laptop. The rate expires in an hour, but I'm wondering if these cashback deals are common enough?
I am undecided between two laptops. This Acer Or This Asus which is thinner with less RAM.
I have tried them in the shop in the past and generally prefer the Asus because it is so slim and a little lighter than the other one. However, the Acer has 8gb of RAM. I'm not sure how much RAM I could put in the Asus if I tried to upgrade it.

Frankly, 4GB, or even less is enough memory for almost all users at all times, 8GB is only meaningful for hefty film and picture editing
Does this help?0 -
Kind of. The issue is can I upgrade RAM easily enough on the Asus? I might use Photoshop and Adobe Premiere at some point in future.0

It may depend on HOW the 4GB is comprised. If it is 1x4GB stick then it is probable that 2x4GB sticks (8GB) will give a noticeable improvement; if it is 2x2GB sticks (4GB) then you may not see any improvement unless you're using memory-intensive applications.
(2x sticks will enable dual-channel memory access on most PCs, which increases memory throughput and so increases performance).0 -
I suspect it could be upgraded. The next Asus model up was 6gb ram and I think that has two slots with a 2gb in one of thoe slots. Strangely though they state that it is not upgradable beyond 6gb. I don't know why that is.
Anyway, very out of character for me, but I bought the Acer online last night. Between the offer and Quidco I got it for 552. However, my main reservation from the reviews I looked at are that is has a plastic body, and the screen is not so good.
When it comes to it I would probably have preferred the next Asus Vivobook up which is the 6gb ram with i5 processor, and a brushed Aluminium body. I hate doing things at the last minute, but I can always return it.
I was confused about the Ram so I am at a disadvantage when deciding. In the speed tests the 6gb Asus out performed some other models, and was also fasterto load Windows 8 etc. Agin, I am not sure why that is or if it would also be faster when it comes to Photoshop, Adobe Premiere etc. I get the feeling I might have bought the wrong lappy, but there you go.0
