The only sure way to find out is to ring IS & ask. If you don't qualify for a grant, which are for essential items only & you'd be surprised at the things they don't consider essential, you may qualify for a social loan to enable you to buy the items you require & to hire a van for removal.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You can get a one off community care grant, which is up to £1000 and you do not have to pay it back. It is a red form to fill out I believe, and is for help with deposits/furniture/moving etc etc....

Failing this, you could get a Budgeting loan which is interest free and they deduct the payments from your IS weekly (or whenever you get your payment)

    Hi

In order to get a CCG you need to qualify under certain criteria
The most likely one is a family under exceptional pressure - there is a specific part of the form that cites that - the form is SF300 and the section is
Section C page 7 - you need to be fairly explicit about wht has happened - seperation from someone, ill health, mental health issues, traumas etc etc - add them all as either one major issue say a house fire or victim of violence - or a multiple of smaller issues like low income through unforseen circs, bullying of kid at school, depression etc etc will add to your case
You need to make the link of how buying the items would reduce your stress as a family and send in an accompanying letter stapled into it if not enough space

In Part 8 page 12 you list the items and explain why you do not have the item and how it will reduce stress there under 'Why you need it?'

Whack it in and if you do not get everything or anything request a review

If that fails at all ask for the file to go to the IRS - often succeeds there

It can take anything from a week to a month.

If you cannot get that, it may be that you would qualify for either a Budgeting Loan, or a Crisis Loan.

I think you need to send it to Jobcentreplus, im sure my friend sent hers back there, although ring them before hand because you dont want it sitting in a pile that is never going to be seen.

If you don't fit the criteria for a CCG, you could apply for a budgeting loan, if applicable.

Failing that, if you are disabled, and need any sort of "special bed", then you could contact an OT at your local council to see what help you need.

They could also refer you for a Disabled Facilities Grant if any major work in your home would assist you.

They are based at your local Social Services, and your town hall should know the number.

Anything they supply would be free of charge.

    Thanks Lin

We do fit the criteria and have had a stairlift fitted and walk in shower on a DFG. How do I get a form for the CCG?

    Thanks
