coop bank £120 charges for 3 days overdrawn!!

Just been charged £120.00 for going overdrawn for 3 days by £260 !! the coop internet site showed my AVAILABLE balance as £345.00 it FAILED to show or have processed direct debits and debit card charges from 4 days ago!! it looks like the system is deliberately "slow" so you Accidentally go overdrawn i was charged £100.00 for the 3 days and £20.00 Service Charge Staff in branch were VERY rude..I made a formal complaint and had £60.00 returned ..I have now took this matter to head office and they insist the internet "available balance" is a "live" balance ..IT IS NOT!! its always 3-4 days out of date. I;m in a wheelchair and have a brain injury i was left in tears by the bank staff's rudeness. Head Office will be refunding ALL charges ...as for myself i have an appointment with Barclays who have iphone app's to help people with health / memory/ issues so you CANNOT go overdrawn without knowing and their "available balance is "live" I.E upto date by 5 mins 24/7

Has anyone had similar problems ?? they WILL NOT give me a breakdown of charges

Anyone Used Barclays?? std account ??

I have a Serious Brain injury and a useless memory so keeping track is hard .. Also i can only get out of the house on "good days" with a carer as i don't walk

It will be live, based on information provided to them by the companies you have already made payments to. The 'iphone app' provided by Barclays will give you the information in the same way.
I would recommend you keep a log of what you've spent and if a payment hasn't come off your account you need to deduct it yourself from the available balance. This will help you avoid charges, no matter who you bank with.

My Cashminder account never lags; money comes in / goes out in a timely fashion.

The online account portal doesn't show any pending/ear-marked amounts but I use their text-balance service for/to confirm more up-to-date balances.
(also I keep my own track too)
  • Need something simple as i have Brain Damage and a text balance would be perfect if it works ..i rely on the internet as i am only able to get out the house on "good days" when i have my carer with me so do lots of on-line shopping Asda/Paypal etc

Does the Barclays System work?? they were SO understanding of my condition and said the text app & messages that trigger when your balace drops below a certain level sounds ideal ..i have little long term memory so need this type of service

In my experience, text messages wouldn't show any pending transactions either. You have to make a note of what you've spent on your card and deduct this from the balance shown to avoid going overdrawn. Surely if you have memory problems, it would be better to write things down as you buy them and keep a running total ?

Most banks offer a text alert service, you can set a lower limit which will trigger a text when you drop below it. Have you asked Co-Op if they offer this service?

Merchants have up to six months to notify the bank that you have made a payment to them. They can actually do this up to six years later and it's considered good practice to contact you first but they don't have to.

Meer53 Thanks for a TOTAL lack of understanding of brain injurys

..i was happy with Nationwide but since my accident i had to move as it was a joint account.. all i want is a simple system like nationwides I DO KEEP RECORDS my POINT IS a live balance should be just that If Nationwide can do it i'm sure others do ALL I WAS ASKING was if anyone uses the Barclays System did not need to be made to feel stupid I though this was a "friendly site" ???

This is a friendly site, in what way did i make you feel stupid ?

If you already keep records, i fail to see how you managed to become overdrawn ?
