As per title, I have been resisting upgrading from IE8 to IE9 because I loathed its layout and I saw numerous reviews panning it.

Now I find that IE10 has just been installed without notification or permission. I'm not impressed.

That being said, what are the reviews like for IE10? I should make an informed decision before uninstalling the bl** dy programme.

I don't want to change to another browser unless I have to, and am aware that IE8 was becoming increasingly incompatible with websites, so I recognise I would eventually have to bow to the inevitable advance of technology around me!

Edit: On IE8 I could click on my favourites list, and right click one of the entries and open it in a separate tab. Can anyone tell me where this is in IE10 because it's a really useful function. - Now found this. It's on the flippin' right hand side. What's it doing there, opposite the Favourites bit? I am in true rant now.

Edit again: And the text font and size has gone funny. Grrr. Again!

It can just about cope with going to https://www.getfirefox.com, then you'll never need it again.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.

I don't actually like firefox any more than than I like IE but I may have to consider it.

Do you have to transfer all your favourites across separately? That's going to be a real faff.

Most other browsers will import your IE favourites. :)

I doubt very much if it installed without you giving permission, it's just that the permission may not have been required at the point of installation. For instance, you may have clicked on "Install updates automatically" in Windows Update. I insist on it waiting for me to tell it what to download and install and I've never had an update do anything other than that.

I've definitely got the notify rather than automatic installation (for this very reason) - unless it previously overrode this in an earlier installation.

IE10 is pretty much like IE9. It installed on my PC recently, and I can't say I've noticed any difference.

IE8 is obsolete, and an increasing number of web sites don't support it properly any more.

Then again, I use Firefox most of the time.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Well I've been using it since my rant ... (and have now calmed down a little but still don't like it!!).

Interestingly, almost always it seems to refuse to open the index pages of each forum on first click. It get a blank tab, have to close the tab, tell it not to bother trying to fix the webpage, and then try again - successfully.

    Bizarre.

    Why not use Chrome?

IE10 is a much greater improvement over previous version.
Not only are security issues a problem with older versions of IE, the tech used for display in previous engines is now becoming obsolete

If you insist on using IE then always use the most up-to-date version as this is the most exploited browser and the privacy features are much more advanced.
