Hey guys,
Just thought id let you know of a scam email i received this morning.Basically this was the email...
***Urgent Safeharbor Department Notice***
Fraud Alert ID : 00626654
You have received this email because you or someone had used your account to make fake bids on eBay. For security purposes, we are required to open an investigation into this matter. To help speed up this process, please Sign In Securely verify your eBay account (link taken out)
Please save this fraud alert id for your reference
Please Note - If your account informations are not updated within the next 72 hours, then we will assume this account is fraudulent and will be cancelled. We apologize for this inconvenience, but the purpose of this verification is to ensure that your eBay account has not been fraudulently used and to combat fraud.
We apreciate your support and understading, as we work together to keep eBay a safe place to trade
Thank you for your patience in this matter
This is quite clearly a scam due to a few things:
1)No username mentioned, as official ebay notices normally do
2)Ebay never ask you to sign in via a link
3)they spelt "appreciate" wrong in the last paragraph!
If you get an email like this and are not sure from the information above and other contributions please send to spoof@ebay.co.uk (send it to that email in any case, even if you are sure)
Note to Moderators: I would be grateful if you could make this a sticky on the Ebay Board so that MSErs are more aware of scams and what to look for in an "ebay" email.
To MSErs: I hope this helps and please add to this other scams which have been sent to you. Lets try and stop these scammers getting their own way!

I get these kind of emails on a regular basis and always forward the to the spoof email. I don't only get them from eBay, get them from paypal and other payment places. Unfortunately these is a lot of ppl who aren't aware that these emails are atually fake and fall for them with consequences

What i've always wondered is..how did they get my email address?"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -

Yes, just to add that if you want to make people aware of paypal and other payment scams aswell please list them here, as some people as you say are not aware and we dont want them to be ripped off.0 -
I was told by Trading Standards in a recent meeting that there are websites based in other countries that offer good reports to sellers at a price. The idea is to buy a good reputation without any history so new buyers will feel comfortable about trading with them. Then they are ripped off.
I haven't investigated these websites, I haven't bothered but I promise you that this has come from a reputable source. I'm a "curtain twitcher" AKA Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator and we have meetings with Trading Standards on issues to do with Doorstep traders who are usually the course of Distraction Burglaries.
Just be careful using EBAY, I'm not saying don't use it but just be careful.
