SIXT Car Rental Problem

Hi,

Not sure if i'm posting this in the correct area but here goes...
I recently hired a car from Sixt and on return noticed that the was a scratch on one of the alloys. Sadly, I'd forgotten to check the alloys when I collected the car as I was too busy picking up paint chips and various other minor scratches on the bodywork....and this was meant to be a new car! Anyway, I accept that that's my fault and I'll pay for the repairs. However, I've now received an invoice from head office saying that the tyre needs to be replaced as well as there's a hole in it! Now, there definitely wasn't a hole in the tyre when I returned it and the lady checking the car didn't note down anything about a hole in the tyre on the return sheet that I signed. The photos on that sheet also don't show a hole in the tyre.

So I just wanted someone's advice. What should I do? I've replied stating the above but haven't had a response as yet. I just don't see how they can try to charge me for something that I haven't seen, haven't agreed is there, and can't see in the original photos.

I knew I should have gone with Europcar...

Your responsibility for condition of the vehicle ends when the rental is 'closed'. It is their responsibility to pick out any defects which wern't apparently present at the start of the hire, just as it's yours to ask for damage to be recorded.

If the agent signed the car off without detecting the tyre issue, then it's tough titty. You have a document showing that there was no apparent tyre damage upon the return. They can't have it both ways.
    PLEASE NOTE

  • Thanks Tilt. That's what I thought, especially as anything could have happened to it since I dropped it back over 2 weeks ago.

Post this on Flyer Talks car rental forum. There is a forum specifically for Sixt Rental queries. A chap called Gary Coughlin monitors the forum. He has posted this:

"I'm Gary Coughlan, I am the Customer Service Manager for Sixt in the U.K.

If anybody has any questions I will do my best to provide an answer."

He may be able to assist as he normally investigates and responds to queries.

You may also find that a chap called Matthew Horsfield may respond as he monitors the forum too and answers queries.
  • Thanks Headpin!
I've posted on there too so hopefully I'll get a response somewhere! :)
