Question about sub worker.

I am having work done on my house. Spent ages choosing who I wanted to fit my new kitchen.
Now the kitchen fitter is talking of bringing in a chap to do some of the work. I decided on the kitchen fitter through recommendation and only want him to do the work. Do I have to accept an unknown workmen working on my kitchen?

I don't see it as a prob tbh, the buck will stop with the guy you employed to do the work so if anything goes wrong he is the one you would go back to to get it fixed

But I see it as a problem - I am spending a lot of money on a job I want right the first time. I have every confidence in the chap I chose but absolutely none in an unknown worker. Surely - "He who pays the piper calls the tune."

a similar thing happened with us...we employed someone to do renovations including kitchen and bathroom based on recommendation. He quoted well and took the job only for us to find out he worked with "a team" when they turned up...each staying a few days whilst their bit of work was done....and our main chap staying throughout the project...

One of the reasons we employed the guy we did was because we had seen evidence of his tiling...it subsequently turned out he hired another guy out to do our tiling as we happened to make a visit to the house whilst the sub guy was there....and when we spoke to him about it he told us he does all the tiling for this chap!

In honesty it didnt make too much difference in the end...I guess he got his recommendations on the back of the other chaps work.... and the quality was to a high standard but I do empathise with your situation!
frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

    2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend

I met with a kitchen designer who told me the work was to be done by a fitter who had a young lad with him - learning the job. Fine - I accepted that but this additional chap was never mentioned.

I'm sorry i don't agree, just because someone works with someone or as part of a team providing the main guy is there & overseeing everything i don't see a prob, my co is listed as plumbing. heating & building services however if there is a wall to plaster i bring in a plasterer, if there is electrics i bring in a sparkie, imo this is better for the customer as you aren't getting a jack of all trades but individual trades who are professional at their own trade.

I agree that as your company offers various trades - a specialist in a trade is better than a jack of all trades attempting a job. However the kitchen fitter is not bringing in an expert for a specific job. He is just getting in a chap to do some of the job - without it being discussed prior to the work starting. I am paying for A to do the work. Why should I accept B?

But there are plenty of bits of kitchen fitting that will be better done by two men working as a team. I presume this chosen 'recommended' workman has worked with this other person before. As others have said, the buck stops with the guy you've chosen; if he's not satisfied with any of the work, surely he'd redo it to the standard he himself would accept... whichever of them do the work.
It might, of course, be his chosen tiler, worktop fitter, plumber, plasterer, all jobs he might devolve to a specialist who is more skilled than he is...

if the original guy is bringing someone in to help him with him being there as well then i stand by what i say, however if the new guy is doing all the work without the other one being there then i agree with you

Kitchen fitter normally does the whole job apart from electrics. I chose the electrician through recommendation. The chap who the fitter wants to bring in is not an expert just a labourer. I think it is to get the job done quicker/on time.

The fitter would be here when the other chap is working but you can't watch 100% of the time - if tiles are wonky - they are wonky! If you are paying for a kitchen fitter - that is what you should get - not a labourer/jack of all trades.
