A few questions...

Hi All

I successfully claimed back PPI charges from HSBC a year or so ago with the great help of this site and its contributors.

I’ve been having a clear out and found a lot of old Barclaycard statements. I’ve checked them and have found that I did have various insurances/protection:
Payment protection plan £178.33
Barclaycard FAP £239.25
Barclaycard Card Protection £96
Sentinel Gold £129.72
ID Protection (CPP) £299.96
Total £943.26

I cancelled the Payment protection plan and Barclaycard FAP in 2004. The reasons were I didn’t realise that the Payment protection plan was optional and I believe it was already ticked on the online application form. I was sold the FAP over the phone with what I believe was an aggressive sales pitch.

I have no recollection of asking for or being sold the Barclaycard Card Protection or Sentinel Gold.

I do remember the ID Protection sale; it was after my card had been used fraudulently and again it was quite an aggressive sale and I think used the fact that I was targeted as a USP (also it was through CPP via Barclaycard). It was cancelled last year and my card was used fraudulently again earlier this year but Barclaycard’s own systems stopped it and dealt with it satisfactorily so I don’t think I ever needed it.

I do have a balance on the card, which I don’t think would be covered by the redress.

My question(s) is/are:
Do you think it is worthwhile trying to claim any of these charges back?
Should I contact Barclaycard or CPP about the ID protection?
Is it best to do separate claim/letter for each one?
Will they demand the balance on the card if I start a claim?

Thanks for reading
Cat

    CPP
    yes
no, but they may reduce your limit and they will use any redress against it if they want to.

    Hi,

I made a successful claim against CPP a couple of months ago. I got the amount I paid plus 8% interest back, I also cancelled the policy.

I have received a letter today regarding the compensation that may be paid to customers who were mis-sold the ID products. Am I missing something? Is there more compensation due? Or do I have another product from them that I didn't know about?

I'm a little confused and beginning to wonder if their internal systems are a bit rubbish!

They are required to write to everyone who was sold between certain dates. You are just getting that auto letter. However, as you already complained and succeeded in complaint, you can just disregard it if it is the same product.

The system would allow filters to find who met criteria to write to but its unlikely they would know who has complained in the past and who succeeded or failed (those that failed previously would be allowed to have their past complaint reviewed).

  • Noted the compensation offered was amount paid for the protection (policy cost) +8% compensation. Anyone know if this is the "standard" repayment, and if so, is it arrived at using industry standard agreement?
