hi
we had a DD born 10 days ago but only came home yesterday. All happened suddenly so didnt get a chance to organise things well.
my sister gave me steriliser (tommee tippee one). i have a question. The manual asks to put 80ml water and simply put it on.
after its over there is a lot of steam inside which condenses back into water after few minutes. so all bottles etc thats in the sterliser is wet. is this normal? do i wipe it off with kitchen towel?

Yes it's normal, happened all the time to me. I didn't wipe it down as then you are just reintroducing bacteria, you want to be handling the bottles as little as possible.0

Yes, that's how they work. Make loads of steam, which heats up everything and kills the bacteria.
Once it is sterilised, don't put anything in except the milk. Ready made cartons are sterile and the powder is sterlised by the hot-but-not-boiling water that you use to make it. Anything else risks contaminating your nice clean bottle.0 -
Yes totally normal.
I just used to shake the bottle over the sink then put the tops on.
Make sure hands are thoroughly clean and dried on a clean towel.
Pour away the water that is in the steriliser as it will scale up the machine if you top up the same water at the bottom0 -
Completely normal, don't wipe the excess water off, just shake the bottles over the sink. Enjoy your new arrival x

You got further than I did which involved - get home with baby, put steriliser in microwave, realise steriliser barely fitted, nearly scald self getting it OUT of microwave... get in car and go buy one of the bucket of Milton ones!
Just shake the bottles off like people have mentioned (obviously with clean hands etc too).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
This is what all sterilisers do. I just used the stuff wet. Don't wipe it off because your teatowel will inevitably be grubbier than the water.
Remember that sterilisers don't actually sterilise stuff. You can't achieve a fully aseptic environment. It's about getting things as clean as possible and steam's a good way to do that in the home. Obviously as soon as you touch something it's no longer 'sterile' but it's a bit difficult to feed a baby without touching the bottle"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
We use one of the Milton buckets, can't recommend it highly enough! Fill it with water, throw in a Milton tablet and it lasts 24 hours. Bottles, dummies, chewy toothbrush all go in until needed. They're quite hard to find in shops now but we got one off Amazon for about £12.0

To be fair, you can use any bucket."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I bought one for our sister in law and yes this is what happened with hers too.
She asked me if it was normal and I said i had no idea, I used fairy and washed them in the sink :rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
We've got the same one, and as others have said it's totally normal. Has your sister given you the little tongs that come with it? They're worth using if you've got to get the bottles sorted quickly after sterilising. We just shake the water off the bottles once they're out.
Oh and congratulations!0
