Could this be a Royal Mail scam?

Hi Folks
Last Saturday I got my postdelivered as usual at around mid-day. However, there was also a ‘Something for you’ card from Royal Maildelivered along with the normal post. Onthe card, it suggests that Royal Mail tried to deliver me an item marked ‘specialdelivery’ on that day but because nobody answered the door when they allegedly knockedto gain the required signature in order to deliver this item, I now need to collectit from their sorting office. However, Iwas in the house all day!!
The interesting thing about thisis that about half an hour later,, a Royal Mail van drove into our street, did a three point turn and wentstraight out again without stopping.
Could this be a royal mail ‘scam’in that they are trying to prove that they drove to my house in order to makethis delivery but nobody was in to sign for this item? Of course, the two incidents could becompletely unrelated.
Do you think I should collectthis item from their sorting office without saying anything, or do you think itis worth taking things further and making a complaint?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

It happens. Like as much they didn't have the item with them (perhaps bulky and/or heavy, and the postie already had a heavy bag) and so took the card instead.0

So, do you think I should complain?0

Yes. Some posties seem to have a bit of a habit of posting cards through the doors instead of knocking and delivering as they are supposed to - it'll only get addressed if people complain and make the management aware that there's an issue.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Why would a driver come from the sorting office, turn around and drive back to sort of prove they had tried. More likely they did knock but were not heard. I suggest a trip to the parcel office to collect.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Just go and collect it, dont bother complaining, you have no proof, its your word against the post persons, and post people are already treated like slave labour, so dont cause them any undue grief.0

You do not have to go to the delivery office to collect it you can arrange for them to re-deliver it to you.0

Lots of reasons - maybe they were doing the rounds of the postboxes picking up the post, not delivering for instance?0 -

Yes you should definitely complain otherwise it will happen again note down the time the card was put in your door and the number at the bottom.Go on the website to complain they won't do anything at the sorting office as they only give out parcels still could mention it to them though.I've complained quite a few times when it's happened to me and doesn't happen quite so often now touch wood.0

There would be no point in driving into a road to prove presence there (even if RM vans were GPS tracked) if a card has been left, because clearly the postie was there.
There have been reported instances of couriers working for companies who use GPS tracking not leaving a card but driving into the road and then driving off with no attempt at delivery, thus 'proving' that they did actually turn up in the vicinity, should the customer complain. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
