Does anybody know why after Atos has done time after time a home visit for a person, that suddenly that person is told they must now attend a centre? for a 'medical' as they say...Person in question cannot walk and has something which will never get better...also being rural and he suffers fromm chronic travel sickness which I have witnessed myself...its just going to exacerbate his condition. Advice welcome thank you.

In general, each assessment is conducted afresh.
Try contacting them and requesting an in-person visit, perhaps copying any earlier information sent them.0 -
Thanks we have done that but the atos are demanding a faxed letter from the Gp now which he has to pay upto £60 for, and atos will make another appointment.... for him to go in...which defeats the object rather doesnt it...going round in circles...meantime it would seem that sites helping you win atos have been blocked, how very odd? After an internet search, I have had a look on some help sites dwpexamination.org, wordpress.com, black triangle and atos victims group, there seems to be quite a problem on this topic doesn't there? Reading between the lines it would appear that no matter what you will be forced to go to a so called 'medical centre' to be assessed by atos - who are not doctors and refuse to supply their medical number - who will not pass anybody no matter what. Hmm. Not looking good. People are going to be forced into poverty and lose their homes.:eek:0

There has never been an automatic right to a home visit, and asking for a letter from your doctor is standard practice. The reason the doctor is charging so much is because this is a private service so he may charge as he wishes - the DWP has no say in this.
Reading Black Triangle and the likes is always going to give you a skewed view of the system. It is far from perfect, but most of the conspiracy theories put about by those sites are not in the least bit helpful, and often untrue.0 -
Oddly enough we have had a lot of helpful info from black triangle as they tell it like it is, however, this would not be popular with some people and I realise that.
Latest is, his doctor received his money and request for the fax to be sent, however several days later it has still not happened, and people are in meetings and cannot be reached. In the meantime he has discovered that the local walk in centre for those without a GP is staffed by this doctor, and quel supris is in the Atos building - clearly his doctor has a conflict of interests......hmm
In the meantime all the stress caused a really bad asthma attack and at the same time he was stung inside the throat by a bee can you believe.....what are the odds of that happening, very unlucky...I took him to A&E I cannot fault them they were very quick, kind helpful, really good, however as he is now in dispute with his doctor and will arrange to change on monday to a nearer practice (which isnt a huge impersonal medical centre,) he told them that he had left the practice on friday and was currently without a GP which is right. He wants no more to do with that Doctor or practice. (due to the issue going on).
I think that they will still supply the information about his a &e visit, to the GP he previously had, though, am I correct in thinking this, because his records I'd assume will still be held there although he's left that practice. Until they are transferred on monday to the new doctor.
He thinks he would be better telling the new doctor and then take it from there.0 -

Once the new practice has all your records, they can certify the illness from the records/consultants' letters on file, although they will probably also want to see the patient. However this is likely to take time.
However, if is worth noting that the doctor does not have to write a letter. My own GP gave me a fit-note and under recommendations put that I was unable to attend the assessment centre and needed a home visit. ATOS accepted this.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Could be wrong but is it not possible that the GP despite working in building whih also hosues ATOS isn't directly linked to them?
Writing private letters such as your friend has asked for , are supposed to be done by GP's in their own time. As they're being paid private rates to do it. It could be his GP or practice maanger hasn't had time to write it yet, and it won't be due to any cosniracy agaisnt your friend.
If he hasn't been happy with his GP in the past, sensible to move. But not if it's a knee jerk reaction caused by reading too many forums, and a bit of delay in getting a letter written.
Finding out a GP operates a clinic in a building also used by ATOS means nothing. And doesn't translate as the GP being in league with ATOS or any conspiracy either. ATOS use part of a building near where I live for assessments. After 6pm and during the night the building is used for any out of hours emergency GP appointments arranged by NHS 24. It's was included as part of ATOS's contract they could utilise space like this all over the UK to reduce their overhead costs , and supposedly the cost of of the contract.
Would agree with Dogger69 here, reading these other forums seems to ahve clouded your view point somewhat. .0 -
Write to your MP and advise atos that that's what you intend to do.
Get your assessment recorded to protect you from any atos shenanigans!0 -
