Toronto parking

We are visiting Toronto in summer staying at the fairmont hotel. Valet parking is about 50$ a night. Anyone been and knows of any cheap safe parking or is it worth paying for valet?
Also would like some ideas for organised day trips from Toronto apart from Niagara.
Thanks.

I've been looking into this for a forthcoming trip, and Green P look like they have some decent options - as far as I can tell it's their equivalent of our NCP car parks, operated by the Toronto Parking Authority.

Prices vary by location, but from a very quick look, the closest to the Fairmont charges the following:
$3.00 / Half Hour
Monday - Friday Day Maximum (7am - 7pm): $18.00 Night Maximum (5pm - 7am): $6.00
Saturday - Sunday & Holidays Maximum (Per 12 hour period): $7.00
I would assume the day and night maximums are once in, once out, whereas the $50 valet at the hotel will presumably be with in and out privileges.
Is there any reason why you need to keep a car with you for the full trip? My brother lives in Toronto and finds driving there a bit of a nightmare, plus its so expensive to park; public transport isn't bad for getting around most parts of the city as an alternative option. We're renting a car for the day to drive to Niagara but otherwise will be sticking to walking, subway, streetcars etc.
For organised day trips, the only places that spring to mind are Niagara Falls &/or Niagara on the Lake...there are other interesting places to visit within a couple of hours drive but I don't recall seeing many tours. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas for you there.0 -
Thanks. The parking info really helpful. We don't plan to drive around the city. We will be coming from Montreal. Then driving onto Niagara after the stay in Toronto. We just need to park the car up for 3 days.0

Why not just hire it until you get to Toronto, then drop off, and collect again when you leave? That would save rental fees as well as parking. Toronto is very easy to get around on foot and by public transport.0 -
The car is already booked. We might use it if we can't find an organised tour.0

Ah ok.
We spent a week in Toronto last year, and there is loads to do without leaving the city (Niagara Falls obviously the exception to that!). I'm not sure I'd be looking to do day trips in preference to the CN Tower, Distillery District, Chinatown, Casa Loma, ROM etc etc (just a few things off the top of my head, we did more).0
