Would paying full 6 months' rent in advance be likely to get us a discount?

I wouldn't do it. My partner and I did it when we were new graduates as we couldn't get anywhere to live without paying up front, but it was a bit of a nightmare. The landlord and letting agent ignored us and all of the problems with the house until the time came for us to start paying monthly. I'd also be concerned about getting my money back if the house got repossessed and I had to move out before the six months was up.0

Make an offer at the lower price anyway, without the suggestion of paying in advance. I've offered on every property I've rented. Some I had to move up to full asking to secure, but others I've gotten as much as 10% off as the property was vacant and we could move immediately. Asking never hurts!0

I agree asking never hurts except if there is more than one person interested and then the landlord may go for the person not asking for discount. Try and see!0 -
From a LLs point of view I probably wouldn't give you a discount, you're not really that, desirable a tenant, and I only mean that from the point of view that you're not going to be staying long term.
As has been pointed out in, the space of a year I would have to market the property twice, carry out all the admin twice.
Thats before even considering that there maybe maintenance or issues with deposits to contend with in 6 months time.0
