renting - giving notice to landlord

Hi
Can someone tell me what needs to be put into a letter to landlord giving notice to end tenancy.
We are on a Statutory Periodic Tenancy and know we have to pay the last full tenancy month rent even if we move out earlier.
Our deposit was guaranteed by the local council 15 years ago when we moved in so we don't have that to come back to us.
What information do we need to put in the letter?

You give a month's notice of your intention to leave the property which expires on the last day of a period of the tenancy. Hence in practice the 'notice' is often between 1 month and nearly 2 months depending upon the date you give it to the landlord in relation to the tenancy period.
So if your tenancy runs from 15th of each month to the 14th of the following month and you gave notice now then the notice would end on the 14th July - hence nearly 2 months0 -

Dear Mr LL,
I am writing to advise you that I shall be moving shortly. Consequently this letter is to inform you that my tenancy will end on xx/xx/2013, in line with the current Tenancy Periods.
I should like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help over the years. I have been very happy at the property during this time.
Yours sincerely,
A Tenant
