Redundancy and Tax question

There are redundancies coming up at my work and there is an option to take voluntary. Anyway we had notes on this and it says that they "will seek to achieve the most tax advantageous position possible with regard to the element which will be tax and NI free". What exactly does that mean? Does that mean they'll try to make us pay as little tax on the amount we get as possible? How will they do that? And how much is not taxable?
