Your moral view is irrelevant.
This is an open discussion board and my view is as valid as anyone else who posts here.Customers have the right to complain to the fos if unhappy with their insurer.
No-one says otherwise. However, the cost of dealing with frivolous and pointless complaints has to be paid for by someone. So, other consumers are paying for this. And don't we pay for all their mercs, conferences, Christmas parties etc too?
This is irrelevant.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I thought frivolous/pointless complaints got culled before they got to the insurer pays stage.
Having said that, there must be a cost to culling which would fall on the firms with valid complaints against them0 -

Well.....this isn't intended as a "discussion" forum, if you want to discuss morals there are other forums more suited on MSE eg the Arms.
In any case this is a money saving board, and uses all manner of loopholes/wheezes for us to get our revenge. Knowing the fos bias towards the customer by way of making only the insurer pay is a fair topic to pass on.
And you have missed the point of the advice given.
If someone feels a £35/£55/£75 cancellation fee isn't fair they entitled to take their complaint to FOS. The point is that it's possible that an insurer will take a business decision and not waste management time/admin costs/fos fee money over a small matter that can be swatted by way of a "goodwill gesture".
(No-one knows the current figure considered to be "reasonable" for cancellation fees anyway!)
Anyway you should be more unhappy that your industry has caused a member here (lisyloo) so much grief she has had to use the FOS adjudication system 6/7 times! How much have all those complaints cost the rest of us in increased premiums unnecessarily had they sorted the problems initially? (She seems to have atrocious service, or are you gonna call her immoral?)
We'd all be better off if they got their house in order - wouldn't we?0 -
whilst I agree 100% with your post I thought the OP's grump wasn't particularly about the £35 but more to do with the fact that they were hanging on to his £150 deposit for a couple of months.
If they can take it instantly I can't see why they can't give it back instantly0
