Help Fight against Car Insurance Companies

I am an 18 year old male who is trying to get insurance quotes for a 2003 1.6 mini one and i feel like i am banging my head against a brick wall! the cheapest i can get is £2000 fully comp with me as main driver, my mum and named driver, £150 voluntery excess and i have done my pass plus, where as for the exact same details for a female it is as much as £500 less !:O i know that 'statistics' say men are more likely to be 'involved' in an accident, but the equal oppertunities act says that companies cannot discriminate between male and female but surly this is discrimination??? i know insurance companies say that they are not but i feel they are, does anyone else share this veiw? perhaps if we got enough people we could change this??
perhaps start pertition? then take to insurance regulators?

i cant see how it isnt? if i was to start a business and say women had to pay 30% than men to use the service i provided because they were more likely to use it more(for example a home delivery service) i would be prosecuted, would i not?

like i say, do a search. this has been discussed several times before and you'll get the answers there.

All credit to you for getting your Pass Plus. If only other guys of your age did the same we'd all be paying less for our insurance.

But unfortunately your car is attractive to thieves, is expensive to repair, expensive to replace & it's got very nippy engine for an 18 y/o. Combine that with a relatively low excess and insurance stats for guys of your age and you're really gonna struggle to get a half decent quote.

But shop around. Admiral do a no claims accelerator on their insurance, think you get 1 years NCD every 10 rather than 12 months. If that's any help it might get you a full NCD that much faster.

Whatever company you go with remember to tell them if you've modded your car in any way otherwise it might invalidate your insurance.
