Can I get a refund on this item?

Hi all,
a few months ago I bought a new Hoover vacuum cleaner. I have the receipt and I activated the guarantee.
It's not faulty as such - it works - but its performance is terrible! I would have cleaner carpets if I sucked the dust up using my mouth! (I really regret not getting a Dyson to replace the one that broke after 7 years of faithful service, but just couldn't afford it!)
So - can I return the vacuum for a refund? And if so, who do I deal with - the retailer or Hoover themselves? How would I go about this? I have tried phoning both parties and they just fobbed me off saying I wasn't entitled to anything as it's not faulty. In my mind, it's not fit for purpose, but they just weren't interested.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

If its not fit for purpose then it would likely be up to you to show that its not since they're saying its not faulty.
After a couple of months, its unlikely you'd be able to argue non-acceptance so you would likely end up with a repair or replacement if you were able to prove its not fit for purpose.

You have no rights if it's not faulty which it doesn't seem to be, no point comparing it to a Dyson as you by cheap you get what you pay for.
Just because it's not up to your standards doesn't mean it's not up to the standard it was supposed to be.0
