tax back from the USA?

I have recently returned from the USA and was told that if i kept my receipts i could claim the tax back? Is this correct? and if so how/where do i claim?

    No, in general, it isn't correct.

    There are a few department stores who will give you the equivalent of the tax back if you spend over a certain amount and there are a few states that allow you to claim taxes back, but that has to be done before you leave the US. Once you're home there's nothing you can claim.

    Of course good old HMRC will be pleased to collect additional excise duty, import duty and VAT if you've spent more than £390 if you send them re receipts;)

    This was done away a few years ago. You used to be able to claim it before leaving the country.
    Mind you I think US prices are really cheap anyway

    I think Louisiana is one, Texas is another although subject to a minimum amount, I can't remember any others off the top of my head


    I know there are a handful which don't charge sales tax in the first place, (eg Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, Alaska and Montana IIRC)

    Never existed in the US - it was Canada that did away with it
