my NCD - has it just evaporated?

Options
I have lots of years car insurance with no claims at all.

A previous insurer offered me a discount at 9 years, then at renewal time I had a quote that stated 9 years No Claims Discount (the max they did)

I renewed with someone else as they were cheaper, had a claim free year and the renewal paperwork stated 5 years NCD.

Went with someone else at renewal time but the renewal quote from insurer says 5 years NCD.

At this point I have 12 years of claim free driving but my renewal currently says 5 years - the maximum that my last insurer would offer.
I have all the previous quotes (kept them just in case) but does anyone know if, in the eyes of todays motor insurance industry, I can only claim 5 years NCD?

ie if/when an insurer asks me for proof, do I have a cat in hells chance of convincing them I have more than 5 years claim free motoring by producing copies of the renewals?

Isn't it all on one big anti fraud insurance claims computer anyway? or is that just an urban myth to make us tell the truth?

Its not that your no claims have dissappered, simpley some cap NCB at 5 yrs some cap at 9yrs, if you contact previous insurers you should still be able to obtain proof of your no claims from each provider.

Hi, you need to keep a ' paper trail ' of past renewal paperwork so you can prove to future insurers how many years you have.

Generally up to 5 years you get 65-70% discount and then for each year approximately an extra one percent per year up to nine years.

You get very little , if anything , for anything over nine.
