Barclaycard Claiming they dont have my CC number?

Hi
I hope someone can advise me.

I spoke to Barclaycard and went back in thier archives with them over the phone as I have had numerous cards with them over the years and they said, yes, I did pay PPI, which I was unaware of.
I filled out the forms, now they are writing to me saying that they need the credit card number as they dont possess that information, which I find hard to believe!
They now have sent me a letter saying if I dont reply within 10 days they will make a decision based on the information available...typically, Ive just come back off holiday!
Can they do this. Any can anyone suggest an easier route as I keep trying to call but as usual I can never get through!
Thanks in advance.

When you filled in the form, did you include your CC numbers on it? It sounds like you received the standard reply to a complaint with no CC number, which is for them to ask you for it - it's not that they don't have it, they want to know what you're complaining about/not just trying it on with the crowd. If you don't provide one they'll use whatever they have on the system for you and work based on that. The easiest thing to do is to call, their PPI line is open M-F 8 to 8.

Hi BC_KT. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I don't have the CC number as it was a card I possessed some 20 years ago so I no longer have any records. What do you think would be the best approach?
    Thanks again

The best approach is to send a SAR and £10 and possibly waste that £10 because there may be no records left.
Don't hold your breath for this one.

I think you're wasting your time with this one. Although the Bank may have been able to confirm that you had a PPI policy on your card, it's extremely unlikely that they'll have kept any details of actual payments you made. I agree with you that they shouldn't be asking for the card number, but I think your complaint would be refused even if you did have the number for the reasons above.

Unfortunately, this is not the best approach at all in the circumstances as the Bank are going to give their full and final decision in ten days. A Subject Access Request (SAR) takes around forty days which is far too late for the OP.

Ah, didn't see that bit. But if he wants to contest their decision, any old info will help.
