You could ask, but the thing is you're unlikely to get info that you can rely on. The person you see or speak to initially after you file for BR isn't the one who assesses your case, so they couldn't tell you a whole lot, though they might ask you some questions to clarify some issues. The person who makes the decision will do so after going through your case with a fine-toothed comb, & will let you know hopefully a few weeks after your hearing.
  • oh my ...... it is all so complicated isn't it .... why does it differ so much ....

I think they don't want to commit themselves to an answer one way or the other until they've actually gone through your SOA properly. I had to ring my OR a few days after my hearing & he told me then that I'd be getting an SOA because of some things that I'd put on my SOA, but flatly refused to discuss how much for until he'd gone through the SOA - it took nearly 3 weeks for me to get that info. In some cases they have to contact people's banks or check savings/assets, & if they find out someone has far more money/assets than they've said that could change the whole IPA position. A lot of cases can easily be dealt with within a few weeks, but there are some that require a lot more investigation (where people have tried to hide assets/money, for instance), so the ORs will be as vague as they can be or say nothing at all until they have to.
