Blocked water jet on rear windscreen wiper Vw Polo
Hi, DD has left her car into Kwikfit, for small service before MOT, and costs are being added on for clearing blocked jet on windscreen wiper (£20)...is this really necessary? or is it a simple job that can be done at home..I feel cos it's a girl's car they are taking the hand out of her.. £84 for interim service, them £12 for lights alignment, now looking £20 on top to clear this jet.. car only has 15500 miles. Will it fail MOT on this, nothing else wrong, in Northern Ireland btw, where MOT seems more stringent..please advise..TIA

Can anyone advise how to DIY it.. thx0

normally poke a sewing needle in the jet hole i found this normally clears it0

Yep, use a needle rather than a pin as they are stronger and less likely to snap or bend back around on you0

It can sometimes be a build up of screen wash additive in the tube that feeds it. If that is the case, then on a rear wash, you may have to remove some trim to get at it (on the windscreen, you just have to open the bonnet, unplug the tube and blow through it)

If you know someone who's got a mig welder, and off-cut of welding wire is ideal for unblocking jets.
£20 is taking the mick for a job like that, unless they're replacing the whole jet - which isn't probably necessary anyway.0 -
As others have said, a needle is the simplest way of unblocking it. Failing that, fill the washer tank with clean hot water and see if that will loosen any gunge. If you can easily get the tubes off, that's a simple way of doing it.
And yes, the front screen washers need to be working for the MOT. Rear screen wash is not a testable item as far as I know.0
