Exchange procedure

For anyone who has been following my journey, I'm now nearly at the point of exchange ( ) and wondering what happens:
A friend of mine said that they received phonecalls from their solicitor every few hours during exchange to update them. I was under the impression that a phonecall was made and that was that? Can anyone fill me in?
Also, my name is spelt incorrectly on the documents I've been sent. I've asked my solicitor but am still awaiting reply - can I hand-write the ammendments to my name or will the solicitor need to change the docs and re-issue?
If all goes to plan, I will be completing on Friday/ Saturday!!

Oh how exciting!
I am not sure about the spelling amendments but as for exchange, we got a phone call from my solicitor asking if we were happy to exchange, confirmed date of completion and explained the implications of exchange. He then called back about 10 mins later and said "you have exchanged!"
I then finally started to relax lol!
He called the vendors solicitor as I am assuming the vendor's solicitor did the same protocol with his clients as our solicitor did with us and they exchanged verbally between themselves in 'solicitor speak' on our behalves! And that was that!
Oh and remember to start packing0 -
I've only ever had an email from solicitor to tell me exchange has taken place. I wouldn't want one phoning me on a constant basis with updates on exchange. As long as it happens on the day it should then all is well as far as I'm concerned. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Same as SpottyWellies - mine rang to say she was going to exchange and was checking everything through, then rang when I had exchanged.
jibbyboo - you won't be able to complete on a Saturday, although you may mean the Friday, but that you're moving in on the Sat.

Jo - yes that's what I meant (I already had this discussion with my solicitor actually, banks aren't able to do the completion at a weekend).
Thanks all for the input, much clearer now. Human race haven't half made it difficult to pass bricks and mortar between us have we?!Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you. Down with the trolls!0 -
