Yesterday I went to clock out and there waiting for me was an envelope. Inside it read ..
16/5/13 RE: End of Fixed Term Contract
Further to our meeting on 19/5/13, regarding the expiry of your contract, I am writing to confirm that, as discussed, your employment will terminate on 30/6/13 in line with your contract.
....
Now I'm very aware of my contract and its end date but I also had a contract which ended in December but they renewed it. The place I'm working is currently employing more and more staff and agency staff to cover demand yet I'm not getting a renewal? There are just 3 of us on this contract and 2 of us are being terminated.
Another problem with this letter is that there was no meeting on the 19th. Not with or without me. How do I know this? Because my manager had the day off. It was dated and signed back on the 16th before any such meeting. I have not been given a reason for my termination other than the end of my contract.
I have done nothing wrong and worked hard the short 7 months I have been there. Even working 6 days a week even though I'm on a 2 day per week contract.
Does this all sound a bit odd to you? Should I be seeking legal advice? I have no other job to go in to and assumed my position was safe and my contract would be renewed again

Bad news, I'm afraid - no employment rights, as you haven't been there 2 years. So in a way it makes no difference that you had a contract, rather than being a contracted member of staff. They can still get rid of you on a whim (and it sounds as if they just want cheaper staff, sadly
) Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
It might sound 'odd', but as you have only been there seven months there is little you can do, unless your contract is being terminated for discriminatory reasons.0

They can't pay anyone less than what I'm on surely. Just £6.19 per hr. I don't expect to change their minds I just don't understand why I'm being fingered out. It's upsetting how its been handled.
Can I say anything about this imaginary 'meeting'?0 -

I don't know about the meeting but unfortunately they can pay someone less than you.
18-20 yrs £4.98
Under 18 yrs £3.68
Apprentice £2.65
So if they get in someone younger they can pay lessIf freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
Oh yes I'm aware of those but the people they are getting in are all over 18 and there's no apprenticeships in House Keeping

I had a word with the acting supervisor and she reckons that the manager has a chip on her shoulder about me. Apparently its happened before. Manger decided she just didn't like someone anymore even though they were a hard worker and never put a foot wrong, like myself, so she booted her at the end of her contract.
I'm better off out the place but wondering how to handle the rest of my time there to avoid conflict and to make sure I get paid. They have been known to not pay overtime owed once someone leaves.0 -

Yes, there are - they even lead to an NVQ.0 -
Really?? Why on earth would someone want an NVQ in cleaning? This is not an industry people stay long in I've noticed.0

Why wouldn't someone want to do it? Like paddedjohn, I know a few people that have been cleaners for many years.0 -
Also what some people do is work in cleaning for a while get contacts then open their own firm and as they already have a reputation this helps them get their first clients.
However this doesn't help you as you seem to have been let go because of the "I don't like the cut of your jib sunshine" excuse as as mentioned before even if you had a permanent contract they could have still done this to you within 2 years thanks to out Dear Leader CA-Moron.
So as unfair as it is it looks like you'll have to suck it up and search for an other job.If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0
