I've used Phillips machines in a professional capacity as a sys admin a couple of years ago and have used Dells both professionally and personally.
I'd go for the Dell every time. Build quality and support are currently second to none in my experience.
In terms of performance there will be very little between them due to the quality of current processors and hard drives.
As a side note, make sure you install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 if you're running Vista...

Have you search the net for the reputation of PC World?
The main advantage of the Phillips machine is the graphics card, but not by much. The Dell is much cheaper so looks the better deal.0 -
If you go for Dell, which I have just done, then you can negotiate a deal on the phone. I got about 8.5%, other threads on here suggest anything btwn 5-10%.0

Yep My vote goes to Dell as well

Thanks guys,
I am not sure why I wasn't receiving email notifications.
I got another PC (low ram and graphics card) and have ordered a nVidia graphics card (much better than these two) and ram to upgrade it online.
Making only 620 in total as I was happy to put some parts in myself
Everybody's help appreciated.0 -
If you do want a Dell, I strongly suggest that you have a look at the dmxdimension website where all the current dell deals are listed.0

Was listed for 679 in store and 549 online and on Bank Holiday.
I paid 495 in store (after using a friend's staff discount, had to spend about an hour haggling). Only down side is slower processor and low ram.
Graphics card and TFT is better than above two. Saved money to buy more RAM and an nVidia card and I can sell off old RAM and ATI card.....0
