But generally speaking, what does the law say about workers (not neccessarily au pairs) who "live-in" such as chefs, nannies etc. What can you legally deduct from their earnings as living accomodation??? Is it still taxable?

You pay them a wage to reflect the fact that accom is included.

then you pay their tax & NI on top

The american girl was on a student working visa & not really on an au pair scheme.

I was shocked by how much was expected of them all and the fact that no one tried to make provision for them to understand the children's routines or even what sort of hours they should be doing.

The house that was a dump, was filthy & I had concerns about the lawnmower racing, but at least the dad (not sure about the mum) wasn't expecting miracles, just to find the house standing & in an ok state. They also made a concerted effort to get her out & socialising whish is the point of the au pair system (even though she was an English speaker)

The others clearly wanted a house keeper / nanny but wanted to get away with paying cheap skate wages. I mean not to have shown her round the area or given her a map or sorted out keys to the house before leaving her in sole charge:rolleyes:

And the way some of the children spoke to the au pairs! They'r ein for a shcok when they go abroad and realise the au pair runs a bank or something similar :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I could not believe that mans house! Im suprised she went back to get her bags! I really did think she would go in to get them and escape out of the back door lol!
I must say though i did laugh at the end when the mum was singing, she thought she was great lol bless her!

I think its a real shame that turkish girl was left to deal with those boys all alone. I would find it hard and i have a child but to come to a different country and look after someone elses children with no transport or directions.

It must be very difficult for these girls to come over here away from their cultures and some seemed to be treated like glorified slaves!
