Alton Towers said BOGOF to the DISABLED

Sue,
I've got aspergers myself but I'm thankful I'm fully mobile and on the high functioning end so I do feel for your son on a personal level too. As such, I've not had issues with Alton Towers.
However, what I suggest is to get your tickets through their website (same for Chessington and Thorpe Park) rather than buy on the day. It makes a huge difference. your son at full price would be £12 and it would be £24 for you. (Discounted Admission ticket) I expect there are other offers too if you look at their website.
I hope this helps you for the future,
Catherine0 -
I would imagine that the use of the word 'normal' was meant in regards to the ticket type rather than the person (although maybe 'standard' or 'full-price' would have been a better choice of words) and I strongly doubt that the cashier was implying that your son was not normal.
Look on the positive side - at least you didn't have to queue for the rides!0 -
I've sent Alton Towers an email and they haven't responded, that's why Disability Now Magazine reporter Ivy contacted them. She is still sure that they discriminated against my son on that particular day and is contacting Disability Rights Commission again today. On top of that I've just been into Iceland and they too are offering BOGOF vouchers when you spend £15 in the store. I've checked the terms and conditions and it still says the same. My son loves Alton Towers but should I travel all the way there again just to be told the same thing? I wouldn't mind but after a previous visit when we had to spend about an hour in the First Aid hut trying to get something to help my son with his pain it was the staff who told me about this service and I've used it ever since!!!! My son already realises he's different but he would much rather be with everyone else.0

An email is probably not the best way to go about a complaint as alot of companys often tend to phob off people who send emails. A letter would be better as company's usually do take the time to read the letter and reply and hopefully it will help them to change this and also put right the upset they have caused you. It isnt fair just because your son has a disablity it doesnt mean you and him shouldnt be able to gain a discount like everyone else.Offical MSE Fantasy League Member:beer:0

im furious for you.
i didnt realise that the carer (main) had to pay an entrance fee. we went to london zoo last week and only paid disabled entry for me and mr mob got in free as my carer.
good luck. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
I know it doesn't really help with your compliant againt Alton Towers but if you ever do decide to go again perhaps it might be more cost effective if you use the Tesco deals vouchers to buy your ticket and pay with cash for your son's.2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.

Absolutly ridicolous
You didnt read the terms, the assistant made it clear your options
She didnt refuse you anything, they just laid out your options
Similarly an OAP, student etc benefiting from a discount would have got the same
There was nothing wrong or untowards here other than you travelling for a big day out with next to no cash for it compared to what it costs
As for what you expected it to cost, its not alton towers fault you didnt read it etc
I know this thread was from a while ago but I detest people who use disabilities as an excuse
Theres equal treatment and receiving assistance then theres trying to abuse the dissability to blackmail people0 -

Crikey, trolling is one thing, but having to dig out a 6 month old thread to feed means you must be struggling for fodder during the winter months!
Have you tried hibernating?0 -
