sorry to hear your tale. a very expensive learning curve. buying at auction for a FTB is a daunting experience and most importantly finance (mortgage) needs to be in place prior to bidding, not just an 'offer in principle'. the completion time of 4 weeks is geared up for this arrangement as people selling in an auction accept generally that they will receive a lower price but will get this speedier than through an estate agent possibly selling to someone in a chain etc.
not a lot of help to you this but other than being able to prove incompetence or negligence (possible more expense?) i'm not sure what else you could do under these circumstances.
i'm sure others on this forum will also advise.0
