Views on this laptop please.

Hi,
I'm looking for a new laptop and am unsure of all the terminology regarding spec. I have seen this one and would be really grateful for any comments or recommendations please;

http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/Samsung-NP355V5C-A06UK-Laptop-AMD-A6-4400M-Dual-Core-6GB-500GB/id-SAM-LAP-NP355V5CA06UK-S

It's for personal use, general surfing the web including banking, storing photos, no gaming. Would like it to be fast! The co-op have a £25 off in their current magazine and so would take it down to £315 delivered.

Many thanks xx

    follow the post you're reading if you want the existing one to be fast

    any new machine over £200 should be fast

    if your voucher doesn't work for any reason, ebuyer do it for 329.99 delivered, and a bit off if you use topcashback

    Alternately, machine with intel i3 at similar price would be faster than A6 for your applications.

    Hi closed, like OP it looks like I will be doing the same, as problem mentioned in post above.
    This Samsung, is identical price and spec.from currys or pc world. as a replacement for my acer aspire,samsung has 2gb more memory, but, amd, not intel.
    had my acer 8 years approx,always been happy with it, but, samsung, reckoned to be good.
    any general advice please, same as OP.for usage.?
    do you have to have windows 8, or is 7 extra, retro step.never used it, but, don,t fancy it, reports I,ve read, and friends .

    if you cant find any W7 laptops, there is a free update due shortly which may make W8 more usable.

    Thanks closed, yes I know, been on other W8 thread about it, thanks for the link, I had lost it.There area few W7 about, but £50 more than W8, and limited choice.
    Think I will stick with Acer aspire, but only do 1 with W8, and not the best.
    I will keep looking, or, get W8, :beer:

    I would opt for an Intel based system purely based on the fact that you're not gaming. AMD only beat Intel (and only just) when it comes to multimedia and graphics, Intel exceed AMD on most productivity applications and also power consumption (and battery life)

    As for your operating system of choice, even if you get a system with Windows 8 pre-installed you'll have 'downgrade rights' to Win7 (for free!) you'll probably get the recovery discs to re-reinstall Win7 in the box. or you could just get used to Win8... it's very easy. 1) hit window key if you end up lost 2) if you cant find something just hit window key and type what you want e.g. excel

    even if you really hate the start screen it's no rational excuse to hate Windows 8, after all the desktop is only a win+D away at any time.

    Hi butler, where do you get that the option of W7 is free and discs also free.
    I looked at acer, with W8, in Currys yesterday, and Acer rep was there. No option of W7 at all, never mind free.or even if I wanted to pay for it. and £35 for OS discs/stick.?
    Using i3;

    Downgrade option comes with Windows 8 Professional.

    None come with discs. I think that you have been told that you have to make your own...at no cost other than the media.

    Hi Nifty, when I was in the shop, Acer rep was there, .I told him I wanted W7 on an acer, he said it,s not available, whether or not, Acer, only put W8 home premium on all their laptops, I don,t know, he didn,t say.I told him I could get same Acer aspire online at Acer direct at £30 cheaper, he said, that,s not Acer, nothing to do with them, very polite, ;
    Presume W8 pro is dearer,to home premium, so, if you downgrade,to W7, you are in fact paying extra for it?
    I don,t know the price difference.? Whatever the price difference is, that,s the cost of "free" option to downgrade, no such thing as a free lunch;
    I was told the recovery discs, come with a charge of £35, same as mine with my Acer, I,ve got now, but, thinking of making my own.
    Should I choose not to make my own, will buy them, I think they are needed, but, Never usedmine, E-recovery, did mine;
    EDIT; Just checked at MS shop. windows 8 is £99.99;;W8 pro is £189.99. £90 to downgrade, that,s not free in my book;
