Train Fine Appeal Rejected.

Don't be so ridiculous. While the onus is of course on the OP to have allowed enough time to get the tickets, it certainly isn't normal to go and pick up your tickets "days in advance". I've never once seen someone collect their tickets then walk back out of the station...
As to why the appeal failed, the time on the ticket you sent them was dated after the time written on the penalty notice (assuming they record the time). Presumably that's why it was rejected as it's proof you didn't have a valid ticket before you boarded the train - otherwise anyone who gets that notice could simply go and buy a ticket when they get off the train.0 -

Not ridiculous - just very sensible. There are two machines on my station, it is not an uncommon event to find both out of order, and the booking office is not open all day.
I always get my tickets in advance - I am going to Winchester tomorrow, got my tickets this morning....................
Going to Worcester next week, got the tickets weeks ago........
Going to Kent in 3 weeks, got the tickets months ago.......
Buy them in advance to get the best fares, collect them in advance to avoid any problems on the day.0 -
The success of your appeal depend on how you ''word'' your grounds of appeal.
I was in a similar incident 3 months ago.
I misplaced my ticket. In fact i paid on the spot fine. Everyone says i can NEVER win the appeal.
I wrote the grounds very well and my appeal was upheld and a refund sent to me.0 -
They are BA****DS, my appeal got rejected, one day in 2 years I couldnt get a ticket because there was nobody at the station or anybody on the train to sell me a ticket, I told the guy this but NO I was lying apparently, but 4 different people used this excuse and the age range wasnt just teenagers either a woman in her 60s got the same happen to her while I was there, my appeal was rejected, but in all honestly, it wasnt my fault there was nobody to buy a ticket from, I even asked to buy one at the station I got off which was only 3 stations later, but no thats not allowed. I wasn't even told about I could pay the fine on the spot either, with the way he spoke to me its no wonder they have to have police with them.0

I'm not sure you look hard enough then. I'm with Yangptang on this - I'd never leave it until the day of travel before I collected any advance tickets (co-incidentally, mainly on the Stoke to Euston route that the OP travelled) - there's too much difference in price between the advance price and walk on fare to risk not ensuring that I have those tickets in my hot little hands in time to travel on the day. And you do hear horror stories of ticket machines breaking down, or the correct tickets not being issued or the credit cards being refused etc...0 -

Same here.
I do this everytime. I ask online for the ticket to be available from Euston even if my journey is from a different station. I go via Euston on the way to and from work so I collect the tickets 24 hours after booking them.0
