Restoring Computer

Hopefully some-one may be able to help me
I have a computer which had Vista on, but I didn't like that operating system and I installed windows 7., which I think has left vista on my system
But my computer has become slow, and I don't really know all the programmes on my computer some I think I don't actually need.
so I want to completely restore my computer to factory setting and actually get rid of the vista completely, but when I go onto advanced management system it wont allow me to factory restore- and its driving me mad
Is there a way of starting again ?
thanks for looking all views would be helpful on this matter

If you run a Factory restore, it will restore Vista to your system. So you can delete the old files manually or just back up your data and run a clean install of Windows 7.

English please.
Did you install Windows 7 as an upgrade? There is also the option to run a clean install, removing Vista.0 -
