The initial costs are quite high but seeing as I never use a land line phone, £25 a month doesn't seem too bad?
But you can get a land line phone, and broadband for less than that. So what's the point?0 -

Lol that is overkill  doesn't come cheaper does it? I doubt that sat net can match good old copper for upstream.0 -

Wow. £25 a month for a 10 GB limit. Plus a £150 set-up fee on 24 month contract. ADSL (landline based) is typically £10 a month for unlimited download plus line rental of £5 or £15 per month.
Edit: hang on, I missed the small print. There's an additional installation charge of £125 plus £60 for a router. And the standard price is £36, not £25.
So that's £335 set up fee and £36 per month rental. Makes EE 4G look like a bargain.0 -
I couldn't give a stuff about the price.
The o/p asked the question "Do You Need A Phone Line For Internet Connection"
The answer is "no", mobile and satellite broadband is an alternative to a traditional land line, although obviously not always cheaper.
I personally begrudge using a land line for the internet when I have made zero calls using this method in the past 9 months.
No doubt its best to DYOR when buying anything but cheapest is not always best or best suits your needs.0 -

(But, yes, that is just me being mischievous - you are answering the intended question.)

However I am not quite sure what the attraction is of paying more for a naked DSL.NPowerUser wrote: »No doubt its best to DYOR when buying anything but cheapest is not always best or best suits your needs.
Absolutely agree. But unless there is a problem with location which makes the copper (and fibre) options laughable I can't see the attraction.0 -

So what is the point of satellite BB then? It is extremely expensive, and slower that cable.
If you don't want a landline phone, then go with Virgin Media, but don't plug a phone into the socket.
In case the name didn't give it away, this is a money saving site. So although I could be wrong, I would assume that the OP wanted to save money by not having a landline.
By the way, I have heard that having a landline actually helps your credit rating.0 -
...and here are the results of the 'do you want naked DSL' survey from TBB and how much are you prepared to pay extra on top of your broadband for it
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5861-poll-results-three-quarters-want-a-naked-dsl-option.html
Not suprisingly the answer is YES we do want it but NO we don't want to pay much more than we currently pay for our broadband.
Well, what a surprise
50% said less than £5/month extra is acceptable with presumably most actually wanting £0 but TBB was not so stupid as to give people that option to vote for.0
