Buying Additional Pension & CTC/WTC

I had another amended TC award for 13/14 today, but it appeared to me to not take into account the ARCs query I detailed above. So after waiting on the helpline for 32 minutes (think this is my personal record
) I got through to a very helpful lady who was surprised the whole thing had been escalated to head office as "I was allowed to deduct ARCs & its there in black & white in the guidance"......
Exactly what Zagfles & IQ (& probably others) have said all along - so glad someone at TC agrees!
Apparently there is a letter on its way to me confirming its allowed :j
I'm so glad I stuck to my guns on this - I've been given more wrong advice from helpline staff that correct advice over this, although I do appreciate that probably only a tiny proportion of claimants pay into ARCs/AVCs etc. Thanks to everyone who has given me advice
Now I just have to sort out why they've stopped sending me correspondence in large print - I can manage with my whizzy magnifier on a good day, & at least it means I don't have to wait for the extra 8+ weeks for such correspondence. A question for another day methinks. And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -
I got the letter from HMRC confirming that the extra pension payments were allowed (in standard print sadly, not a hint of large print ).
So I rang up the unhelpful line to give them my new estimate of my decreased take home pay - only to be told that extra pension payments aren't allowed.....
We went round the previous conversations I'd had, & I mentioned the letter they'd sent me which he couldn't find it on file :rotfl:
I've lost the will to keep on with this at the moment, but I'm assuming that when I renew my claim at the end of this year & give them my lower P60 take home figure, then somehow, as if by magic, this will all be sorted out & I'll get an overpayment - can someone more knowledgeable about this TC system assure me that I won't be penalised for not giving them the correct information earlier in the year?
Thanks in advance. And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -

You can lodge an appeal, that will probably be the fastest way to sort it out.
You don't have to report income changes mid year, so you can tell them after the end of the year.

I'd give up trying to get them to adjust this year's award, it's not worth it. When you renew and give your P60 income you'll get a lump sum if they've paid you too little. Don't bother mentioning the extra pension conts to the helpline any more, it clearly confuses them, just consider your P60/taxable income as the income you need to declare to them, you don't need to mention this has been reduced by the extra pension conts.0 -
Thank you everyone - I didn't think I'd be penalised if I didn't report the change in income, but then I thought that anyone dealing with my TC claim would be able to see any letter from TC, read it & then advise accordingly.
I won't mention ARCs again& shall wait until they send out my renewal pack.
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0
