we have recently changed fron aol to tesco to save a few quid but ie is`nt working like aol or for that matter ie when i use it in the library or college...........when you load up (we have yahoo as home page) and put in a web address , then you shrink it you are left with the blank icon screen, which means you have to re-navigate to ie and get up yahoo again to be able to access a new page, the same happens if you exit a web page(by clicking on the x box), you go back to the blank icon screen????????????
this obviously is`nt how it should work but we don`t know how to fix it.
does this make sense to anyone out there,
many thanks for any help,

You Should be able to set the homepage in IE by going to the Tools then selecting Internet Options. The first page is General. The first item is Home page. You can set it here.
If it keeps on changing then you have a homepage hijack.
Do you have any computer secutity eg Firewall, Anti Spyware, Anti virus ?

by 'blank icon screen' do you mean the desktop? What happens when you maximise IE from the taskbar - it should be on the page you navigate to? If this doesnt help then try to explain your problem again! HTH0

yes i do mean desktop!
i`m on mse now..........the blue line at top of screen has mse.com-microsoft internet explorer..............if i shrink this page i`m back to the desktop!!!!!!!!
so i have to go back into start, move up to ie and click and i get my home page but i lose this when i go to a web-address. it`s like there`s nothing behind the current page.0 -
Thats because IE doesnt open in tabs. If you want a browser that tabs try mozilla firefox. Its free0

You will be back to the desktop if you minimize a window......Maximise the window and your back to IE again...
I dont understand?0 -
Just so I understand correctly........ when you minimize the window.....you are using the first of the three icons in the top right of the window (obvious question I know...but rule out all possibilities). If this is the case, when you minimize the window....do you still have a tab naming the website on the taskbar......or does it completely close the window, so that no tab shows on the taskbar?I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

It's exactly the same as mine...and everyone elses that I've used. If you want more then one page open at a time then click on the IE icon again and open another page. Then when you minimise there will be two little boxes at the bottom of the page, one for MSE and one for Yahoo...if you want another page open then click on IE again..... etc.
Unless I'm missing something and that's not what you meanJust run, run and keep on running!0 -

So just restore the window by using the box on the taskbar at the bottom - (to the right of START by default)
Like some other posters here - I am still not sure why you are having a problem!0 -
if you hit Ctrl-N whilst you have an IE window open you'll get a second window(and a thrid and a fourth etc to play with), by hitting the 'X' you are closing IE not just closing that window.
the only other thing I can think of is that your IE when it starts is 'minimized' already but the window size is stretched to the size of your screen, when you then 'minimize' you are actually minimizing to task bar(confusing I know). I'll try to explain.
You have 3 icons in top right of IE, from left to right, 'go smaller', 'go bigger', close application('X'). If you use 'go smaller' the first time you click it the screen should go to a smaller window size, e.g. half the size of your desktop, the second time you click 'go smaller' it will shrink it completely to be an item on your task bar. Then if you click on IE in the task bar it will reopen to the 'minimized' size, if you then click 'go bigger' it will stretch it to the full size of your PC screen. The problem is if your 'minimized' window setting is the same as full screen you won't notice the difference, except the middle icon will change from showing one window to showing 2 windows one in front of the other. Whilst you have the middle icon showing only one window, drag the top bar of the window down and to the left, then change the size of that window to something within the size of your desktop, that will be your new 'minimized' window size.
(Got to say AOL have a lot to answer for!)0
