My partner is getting made redundant we wasn't sure how benefits would work for us as he is getting £16000 and its also a voluntary redundancy we have 2 small children and currently receive no benefits other than child tax credits. with the redundancy money we plan on putting some in savings for ourselves and a small amount each for our children and with the rest of it we plan to clear up some debts. Our main questions are can my partner apply for job seekers allowance and are we entitled to help with rent also we are moving to a new house and planned on putting down a few months rent is this a good idea? i do realise that the rent we put upfront we wouldn't be able to claim back for. thanks in advance i would appreciate any advice you have.

You really need to speak to the dWP, he obviously will be able to claim JSA but as for housing benefit etc these are means tested so I wouldn't be in a hurry to spend his redundancy on clearing debts etc. It may be classed as deprivation of assets.
Get it from the horses mouth so to speak.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
